Ultra Athlete Matty Christopherson on Running 125km Straight, Raising $200k for charity, Emotional Management, Doing Hard Things and more

I first came across Matty Christopherson while prepping for my appearance on The Great Unlearn with Cal Callahan. I was scrolling through past episodes, doing my homework, when I landed on Cal’s conversation with Matty. I didn’t know him at the time, but something about the title and the subject matter pulled me in. I hit play—and didn’t stop listening until I pulled into Austin. His story, his energy, his vulnerability, his presence… it all hit.

After that, I followed him on Instagram, checked out his site, learned more about his company Opscotch, and started paying attention to how he was showing up—physically, mentally, emotionally. A few weeks later, I was competing in HYROX in Houston. I was in the warm-up area talking to a few guys when I looked over and saw Matty on the bike. We locked eyes—you know that “we know each other from somewhere” kind of look. I said, “You look familiar.” He said, “You do too.” Within a minute, we figured it out—we’d both been on Cal’s podcast, listened to each other’s episodes, and followed one another ever since.

We talked, took a few photos, wished each other luck, and got on with the event.

A couple weeks later, I invited Matty to join one of our Midlife Male Inner Circle calls to share his story with the guys. He showed up fully—humble, thoughtful, direct—and now I’m proud to bring that same conversation to all of you.

So who is Matty Christopherson?

Matty’s a builder. He’s the co-founder of Opscotch, a health-first consumer company helping people lay stronger foundations for physical and mental well-being. But what really sets him apart isn’t just his business acumen—it’s his heart, his discipline, and his willingness to go all in when it matters most.

In 2023, Matty ran 125 kilometers from Vancouver to Whistler—an 18-hour effort with 1,900 meters of elevation along the Sea-to-Sky Highway. He called it Project 125: 90 days of training for 125 kilometers, all to support his friend, Olympian Krista Guloien Temple, in her fight against stage four cancer. He raised over $200,000 and galvanized a community through effort, intention, and love.

That’s the kind of man Matty is.


Shattering the #1 Myth of Entrepreneurship

We’ve hit a weird moment where everyone with a logo, a landing page, and a clever LinkedIn bio suddenly calls themselves an “entrepreneur.”

I get it — it sounds sexier than “freelancer” or “consultant.” It’s better cocktail talk than “employee.” But let’s be real:

Entrepreneurship isn’t a marketing identity. It’s a grind. A risk. A full-contact sport.

This isn’t a knock on people who aren’t entrepreneurs. This is a wake-up call for those pretending to be.

You might be an entrepreneur. You might not be. Both are fine.

But let’s stop cheapening the word to fit a trend, a title, or a midlife reinvention fantasy.

What’s not okay? Calling yourself something you haven’t actually earned.

What Entrepreneurship Actually Looks Like

When I started Team Baby Entertainment in 2004:

  • I raised $200,000 from friends.

  • I mortgaged my house.

  • I took zero salary.

  • I sold DVDs out of the trunk of my car.

  • I was the founder, the CEO, and the guy who took out the trash.

  • I worked out of a back room in a friend’s MRI facility.

  • My desk was a table on top of milk crates.

  • The power flickered every time the MRI machine ran.

That was my office. That was my life.
