Back in 2020, I became aware of a young guy named Sahil Bloom. I don’t even remember exactly how—funny how some of the most impactful connections in life start that way. What I do remember is that he’d gone to Stanford, played baseball, and was working in finance. I reached out, invited him on my podcast, and he accepted. Simple as that. I was just getting started with Midlife Male, and he was just getting started in life.

At the time, my sons were 16 and 13, and here was Sahil, probably in his mid-to-late twenties. You know how teenage boys are with their middle-aged dad’s advice, so I was always thinking, If you don’t want to hear it from me, at least listen to this guy who’s just a few years ahead of you on the path.

Back then, Sahil had no following, no newsletter, no Instagram presence, and definitely no book. But I’m not surprised by what he’s accomplished—or by the speed, efficiency, and effectiveness with which he’s done it. Though I’ll be honest—it actually pisses me off a little that he’s figured out in a few short years what’s taken me 52 to just begin to grasp.

When his new book came out, The Five Types of Wealth: A Transformative Guide to Design Your Dream Life, I wasn’t going to read it. Truth be told, part of me was thinking, I don’t need parenting advice from a guy who’s only been a parent for five years or What can he teach me about real-life experiences when there’s a 20+ year gap between us? I even had some pretty petty text exchanges with some very accomplished people who were talking about him. I just didn’t get it.

Then I listened to him on The Rich Roll Podcast. Rich is much closer to my age than Sahil, and I found myself thinking, If Rich is interested and engaged, maybe I need to rethink this. As I listened, I learned.

My perspective shifted as they shared insights and experiences.

This was more than just a “kid using other people’s frameworks to advance himself.” There were stories of family, health, burnout, regret—real conversations about what success and wealth actually look like.

And I realized something important: I had it right in 2020 and wrong in 2025.

But here’s my message, and it’s simple: It’s never too late to get it right. You can always reserve the right to change your mind. You can always course-correct, learn, and admit when you got something wrong.

I just read his book. It’s tremendous, and I highly recommend it. You can listen to my 2020 conversation with Sahil—it’s fascinating to compare that to hearing him today with Rich. The growth is remarkable. But maybe the more important growth happened in my own perspective.

Sometimes the hardest thing isn’t learning something new—it’s unlearning our own resistance to wisdom, no matter where it comes from.

Even if it comes from someone who figured things out faster than we did. Maybe especially then.

To everyone still figuring it out: Your timeline is your timeline. Your path is your path. What matters isn’t when you get there, but that you keep moving forward, keep learning, keep growing. And sometimes, that means admitting when you got it wrong—or in my case, admitting when you got it right the first time, wrong the second time, and finally right again.

This isn’t just a story about Sahil’s success or my initially misguided resistance to it. It’s about how growth isn’t linear, wisdom doesn’t have an age requirement, and it’s never too late to adjust your perspective.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is get out of our own way and appreciate the insights we find along the path—regardless of who’s sharing them.

Love Your Dogs? Try This Food We Started Using

We’ve got two dogs—Roxy and Riley. Roxy’s a four-year-old labradoodle, and Riley’s an eleven-year-old ShiSchon (Shih Tzu-Bichon mix). We didn’t set out to get “designer” dogs. Riley was a feed-store find in Houston—one look, and we couldn’t leave without him. Roxy? A pandemic pup from a local family with a lab and a poodle. Once we saw her, game over.

I love these dogs. A lot. And I want them around, happy and healthy, for as long as possible.

That’s why we recently switched to We Feed Raw. High-quality, perfectly balanced raw meals delivered straight to your door. I’d heard great things about the brand, checked out their site, filled in Roxy and Riley’s details, and customized a plan. Simple. After a ten-day transition, they’re all in. They love the food, eat with enthusiasm, and their energy levels are up.

And we’re not alone—check out these numbers from their customers:

  • 96% saw smaller, firmer, less smelly poops.

  • 88% noticed healthier skin and coats.

  • 86% reported more mealtime excitement.

  • 87% saw improved digestion.

  • 90% maintained a healthy weight.

  • 79% saw reduced allergy symptoms.

That’s real impact.

Customer service? Outstanding. I had questions on portions, transitions, raw ingredients—you name it. Every time, they delivered. And the food? Packaged well, arrives on time, no hassle.

We’re fans. If you’ve got dogs, check out We Feed Raw. Your pups will thank you.
