Some people network; I prefer to sweatwork. Want to invite me to drinks? I’ll likely pass. Not my thing anymore. Want to invite me to a tough workout session with elite trainers at an elite facility with world class athletes? I’m in.

On short notice? No problem. I’m ready. And with that as your lead-in, let me tell you all about how I packed a month's worth of connections, workouts, and opportunities into just 48 hours in Austin, Texas. This is how I got it done, and don’t worry, in Sunday’s issue of Midlife Male, I’m going to tell you about everything I learned from this trip.

Here’s How I Did It:

DAY ONE

6:00 AM: Hit the road, driving from my hometown in Houston to Austin.

9:00 AM: Arrived in Austin and headed straight to Onnit gym.

9:30 AM:  Elite training session with Juan Leija alongside a roster of legends: Tim Kennedy, Lance Armstrong, TS Steiner, and Bill Murphy (more on this in Sunday’s MLM issue)

Our HYROX-style workout:

  • Warm-ups: Comprehensive stretching and mobility work

  • Strength circuit: 5×5 back squats, box squats, sled pushes, bench press, bent-over rows

  • HYROX finisher: 500-meter run, 1,000-meter row, 500-meter run, 1,000-meter ski, 500-meter run, 200m farmers carry, 500m run, 100 wall balls

11:00 AM: Recovery smoothie at Onnit's café before heading to the Commodore Perry Estate for an early check-in.

12:00 PM:  Call with Christopher Gavigan, founder of The Honest Company and serial entrepreneur with multiple successful exits.

1:00 PM: Light Caesar salad with chicken on the patio.

2:00 PM: Back to the room for two hours of client coaching calls.

4:00 PM:  Reviewed last week's newsletter (Ex- NY Yankees Performance Coach, Dana Cavalea on the cover, read it here) and caught up with our Editor-in-Chief Jon Finkel and our investment team.

5:30 PM: Recovery session at the Proper Hotel: 30 minutes cycling through sauna, cold plunge, and red light therapy.

7:00 PM:  Cheeseburger and fruit from Room Service (glorious!)

9:00 PM:  Lights out.

DAY TWO

8:00 AM: Back at Onnit gym to meet Coach John Wolf and Danny Amendola (Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots) for a restorative kettlebell flow and movement session.

10:00 AM: Post-workout smoothie at Onnit before interviewing Danny for Midlife Male.

11:30 AM: Back to the Commodore. Shower, check out, and meet Ali Khan from the Food Network and "Cheap Eats" for another Midlife Male interview.

1:00 PM: Quick lunch at Dish Society (I’m a small investor – Check it out!) before heading to The Line Hotel.

2:00 PM:  Interview Randy Blythe, lead singer of Lamb of God and author of the new book "From Darkness Into the Light,"  ahead of his spoken word tour performance in Austin.

4:00 PM: On the road.

6:00 PM: My regular stop at Pete’s BBQ for chicken & ribs!

9:00 PM: Arrive home.

10:00 PM: In bed with Kate.

MY TAKEAWAYS

The Commodore is a beautiful property, quiet and removed from the madness of South Congress and downtown. Highly recommend for those seeking a more refined Austin experience.

There's no better gym in Austin than Onnit, and no better trainer than Juan Leija. It was a privilege throwing down with legends like Tim Kennedy and Lance Armstrong.

John Wolf is as good as they come with kettlebells, flows, steel maces, and overall wellness. Danny Amendola is simply an absolute stud.

Sitting down with Ali Khan and Randy Blythe—individuals I normally wouldn't have access to—was truly special and a testament to the power of making the most of every hour, in every city.

In Sunday’s issue I’m going to share a behind-the-scenes of my workouts at Onnit, how they came together and my philosophy on making these moments happen in your own life.

In Health,

Greg
