Look Back To See Ahead

What is the MidLife Male™?

He’s a guy @35-55 balancing work, life, family, health/fitness, finance/money, some style/fashion - trying to balance it all and live his best life possible without regret.
He’s about having both substance and style. About punching the bully in the mouth. About experiences over things. He’s about quality over quantity. He’s about learning and living. About trying, failing and ultimately succeeding. He’s about questioning things. He’s not trying to fit in or conform. He’s into iconic, classic, timeless style.

He’s about being a great father. About understanding that there are no things more valuable than time, health and family. He’s about knowing when enough is enough. He is about perseverance, discipline and having fun.
I talk to other midlife males on my podcast. I publish a newsletter about fitness, food, fashion, family, finance and fun - not to provide advice or come at this like I'm any kind of expert but rather that we’re all in this together, just trying to do our best, be our best and be happy, secure and comfortable in our own skin - Midlife Male is a lifestyle for "like-minded" guys just trying to figure it all out.
Just hoping to inspire, aspire and perspire together.

Greetings from NY!

I have a tendency to move quickly.

Towards things, away from things, thru things and even during things.

So quickly in fact that I don’t always stop to appreciate where I am at, what I have, what’s been accomplished, lessons I’ve learned, experiences I’ve shared and how truly blessed I am.

You’re going to see all sorts of vacation photos this week, receive lots of holiday cards from families and they’re all going to look “Perfect”.

They’re not.

Keep it in perspective.

We are all very fortunate.

Nothing and nobody is perfect or has the perfect life.

We have no idea what is really going on behind the scenes.

Do the best you can.

Live the life you want.

Enjoy the simple things.

Embrace the chaos and the imperfections.

We tend to create “Problems of Prosperity” for ourselves and it’s important to remember to be grateful that we are healthy, safe, secure and happy and to be appreciative of what we have, rather than fixate on what we do not or what others appear to have.

Love the ones that you care about and keep them close. Love the ones who care about you and keep you in their lives.

Focus on experiences, conversations, laughter and curiosity. Look forward; your best life is ahead of you. Reflect; but do not look back, around or by comparison.

As we come to the end of the decade, it is a great time for reflection.

So what happened this decade?

I got in the best shape of my life.

Became a shareholder in my firm.

Opened ROW Studios.

Traveled to some amazing places.

Learned to surf.

Started The Midlife Male Podcast.

Launched a blog.

Coached an insane amount of my son’s teams.

Stopped drinking.

Won two out of the four D10 Decathlon’s I entered.

Got an amazing dog.

Watched my boys become men.

Joined a band.

Made new friends.

Celebrated another 10 years of marriage.

Hired a coach.

Worked hard to become a better man.

Became 47 years young.

There’s a story behind every one of these bullet points.

Not one of them was a perfectly straight line in the right direction but rather a series of challenges, work, love, loss, setbacks, perseverance, questions, successes and failures that have added up to quite a lot of learning and experience over the course of 10 years.

Take the time to reflect and see how far you’ve come and also realize how far you still have to go.

How was your decade?
